The Anti-dsDNA (Double-Stranded DNA) Antibodies Test is a blood test that detects antibodies directed against double-stranded DNA in the body.
This test is commonly used to support the diagnosis and monitoring of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues.
Detects antibodies against double-stranded DNA.
Supports the investigation of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
Helps assess autoimmune activity in patients with suspected lupus.
May assist in evaluating possible lupus-related kidney involvement (lupus nephritis).
Helps monitor disease activity when used alongside other clinical investigations.
Sample Type: Clotted Blood or Serum
Required Quantity: 2–3 ml
Department: Immunology / Serology
Fasting is generally not required unless instructed by your doctor or laboratory.
Inform your healthcare provider about medications and existing medical conditions.
Follow any specific sample collection instructions provided by the laboratory.
A positive Anti-dsDNA result may strongly support the diagnosis of SLE, but it does not confirm the condition independently. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history, ANA results, complement levels (C3 and C4), and kidney function investigations.
Reporting Time: To be confirmed by the laboratory.
Please confirm test availability and sample collection requirements with the laboratory before booking.
